The 2024 national elections are just a few weeks away. If you are registered to vote but can’t vote at your voting station on election day, you may now apply for a special vote to vote on a predetermined day.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), citizens are eligible to apply for a special vote if they “can’t travel to their voting station because they are physically infirm, disabled or pregnant, or; can’t vote at their voting station on election day,” the IEC said.

You need to be a South African citizen, a registered voter, and be at least 18 years old on voting day to apply. Should you wish to apply for a special vote, you can visit https://online.elections.org.za/voterportal/ for more information.

Online voter registration closed on 23 February 2024 and the national and provincial elections will be held on 29 May 2024.
