Two suspects arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and dagga are expected before the Harrismith Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
OFM News reports, the pair were heading from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng when they were arrested on Sunday. Free State Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says they were arrested following a stop-and-search operation near the Sterkfontein Dam.
He says the police were patrolling the R74 when they stopped a red sedan with GP registration. He says they then found a Vector Parabellum firearm with one magazine and sixteen rounds in the car.
“The serial number on the firearm was filed off. Further search led to the discovery of 51 bags of dagga weighing 233.7 kg to an estimated street value of above R200 000,” he said.
Both suspects were arrested and the vehicle seized for transportation of dagga.
The pair aged 37 and 40 are expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrate Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in dagga.
