Police are on the hunt for suspects who attacked an elderly couple on their farm outside Bloemfontein.

According to police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli, on Tuesday 29 August, Kagisanong Police and emergency personnel were summoned to a farm outside Bloemfontein after a man found an elderly couple in a pool of blood.

“It is alleged that the couple’s son, who is staying outside Bloemfontein, last spoke to his parents over the phone on Thursday evening. He tried to contact them over the weekend and on Monday. He then asked one of his friends to go and see what was going on,” said Kareli.

He added that on arrival, the friend found everything still in order at the elderly’s farmhouse. “Upon entering the house – as the doors were left open – he allegedly found the 71-year-old farmer with multiple lacerations on the head and body. He immediately called Kagisanong Police and emergency personnel,” explained Kareli.

He further said police rushed to the scene and on arrival made another discovery – the victim’s injured wife under the mattress, but she was still alive.

“The 64-year-old was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and sadly her husband was declared dead on the scene.”

The Free State Provincial Organised Crime Unit took over investigations and launched a search.

“Anyone with information that may assist in bringing the senseless killers to book, is requested to contact D/Sgt Morena Machalotsa on 073-729-1732 or call police Crimestop 0860010111 or drop an anonymous tip on MySAPSApp.”
