Eight staff members from Mediclinic Bloemfontein were allegedly attacked on Thursday night by angry Nehawu protestors. The victims were allegedly attacked after knocking off from work at 7pm.
Nehawu members have been protesting the hospital’s refusal to meet their wage increase demands. Nehawu’s Treasurer, Thabiso Lala, says they are not aware of the incident. Nehawu is still protesting after meeting with hospital management on Thursday, 27 July 2017.
Mediclinic spokesperson, Barbara Steenkamp, says the hospital is concerned about staff safety. “Staff and patients’ safety is our top priority and we will continue to address the problem,” she said.
Steenkamp emphasised that the incident did not happen on hospital premises, it happened elsewhere in town.
