Close to 200 EFF members have gathered outside the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court since early this morning in support of their leader Julius Malema.
The crowd of EFF supporters have been singing and chanting all morning, vowing to stand by their leader today.
There is a heavy police presence at the court, while traffic officials have barricaded President Brand Street and other surrounding streets.
Malema will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today to answer to an alleged contravention of the Riotous Assemblies Act for encouraging his supporters to invade land.
In 2014 Malema told EFF supporters during the party’s elective conference in Bloemfontein that they must occupy unoccupied land.
“We’re going to occupy the unoccupied land because we need land. For us to eat‚ we must have land. For us to work‚ we must have land. I come from Seshego – if there is unoccupied land‚ we will go and occupy the land with my branch. You must go and do the same in the branch where you come from,” Malema said when he made his calls for land grabs. – Pulane Choane
