The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Free State has speculated on Twitter that former SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoaneng, will become the new secretary of the Free State Legislature. The EFF mentioned this on the social media page on Friday evening.

EFF chairperson in the province, Kgotso Morapela, confirmed the tweet, saying “that is the rumour that we have heard”. Morapela referred Bloemfontein Courant to Mandisa Makasini, who is the secretary. However, we were unable to get hold of him for comment.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Free State Legislature, Life Mokone, said: “That process is followed by Human Resources and if Mr Motsoaneng has applied for the job, he’ll be shortlisted based on the requirements of the position. He will then be called for an interview.

“We have received no indication from Human Resources on his application. At this point, we do not have any idea if he has applied and we have not received any report from Human Resources.”

Morapela says the vacancy for the above-mentioned position was advertised in mid-March and applications closed on 7 April 2017. He says only once the shortlisting, interviews and selection processes have been completed, will he be able to comment on who the new secretary of the provincial legislature will be.

The chairman of the ANC Youth League in the Free State, Makalo Mohale, was cited last month as saying that Motsoaneng was ready for a role in government and would most likely spearhead the land redistribution debate if he is placed in government. Motsoaneng, who seemed pleased with the vote of confidence, said he is ready for a job in government.
