Ndaba says the incident happened this morning in a classroom while learners were being taught.
“While the teacher was conducting a lesson, they heard two gunshots. The learner shot himself in the thigh. The learner is currently being treated at the MUCPP clinic,” says Ndaba.
At this stage, the police are investigating who the gun belongs to.
“We are really shocked and disturbed by this incident. We are warning and calling on learners that dangerous weapons in schools are not allowed,” says Ndaba.
Meanwhile, medical staff says the boy is in a stable condition, and he will be transferred to a hospital for the removal of the bullet. They also say the clinic is situated next to the school. They did not hear any gunshots.
