These departments have been under administration for several financial years and were under the care of Free State Finance MEC Elzabe Rockman, who tabled the provincial budget during a sitting of the Provincial Legislature at Gariep Dam today.
She announced that the provincial intervention at the Health Department has officially ended last month. Olebogeng Motse reports Rockman also announced that the revenue of this department also increased because of the provision of health services to patients from neigbouring countries.
The Department of Education was allocated the biggest chunk – more than R13.5 billion for the 2018/19 financial year, while health received more than R10.4 billion. This department also increased its revenue by treating patients from Lesotho who are being transferred to Pelonomi and Universitas Hospitals.
Rockman says R20 million from the Lesotho Government and more than R6.8 million was paid by Lesotho Netcare for services rendered. She projected a total provincial revenue of more than R1.1 billion in the new financial year.
