Education department partners with community media for matric revision

Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe has called on grade 12 learners to tune in on community radio stations as from tomorrow, 4 November until 21 November between 16h00 – 18h00.

Tomorrow’s live broadcast will kick start with lessons on study skills between 18h00 – 19h00.

About 30 lessons will be broadcast live on 8 community radio stations for 30 – 45 minutes. Subjects to be covered include: Geography, business studies, life science, economics, physical science and study skills tips.

These community radio stations are: Motheo FM, The Rock, Mosupatsela FM Stereo, QwaQwa Radio, Setsoto FM Stereo, Lentswe Stereo and Naledi Community Radio Station.

In his face book page and twitter account, Makgoe called on both full-time and part time 2013 National Senior Certificate candidates to take advantage of this opportunity presented by the department and community radio stations manaegement.

He said top subject advisors will be deployed in these radio stations throughout the province to unpack various topics to prepare learners for their all-important examinations.

This initiative is part of the department’s strategy on improving grade 12 scholastic performance and will go a long way in assisting the province to obtain the target of 85% pass rate, Makgoe tweeted.

“Learners should incorporate these live broadcasts in their study timetable”, Makgoe said.

Makgoe also thanked community radio stations for working together with the department in ensuring that the Free State become number one when the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga announce grade 12 results on 7 January 2014
