As Easter weekend approaches, Bloemfontein residents look back at how different and difficult it was this time last year when the whole country was under lockdown level 5. They speak on what they are most grateful for and how they have adapted to new ways of celebrating. Bloemfontein Courant journalists spoke to some residents to find out how they will be celebrating Easter this year. Here is what they had to say:

Yolande Macalagh said she will be celebrating a very special weekend this year. “It’s been a very hard year for most people, but we made it, regardless. We were in lockdown last year and most of us had to spend Easter weekend connecting to loved ones by making video calls and through Zoom.” She added that she feels super blessed to be celebrating God’s love this year.

Given Kgori, together with her husband, Titus, will be spending Easter weekend with family and are looking forward to having a fish braai. “We will be spending time with my family and going to church.”

Rorisang Ramorena will be spending his Easter weekend with his family in Thaba Nchu as he hasn’t seen them in a long time. “The best part about the Easter weekend is not only eating the Easter eggs; the weekend is very important to all Christians as it is the day we will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, three days after His crucifixion.”
