A 26-year-old male doctor at Mofumahali Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital in Qwaqwa was shot on Tuesday (21/5) evening.
According to the spokesperson of the Free State Department of Health, Mondli Mvambi, the doctor fell victim to this near-fatal shooting in an unexpected violent burglary incident at the secured doctor’s quarters at the hospital precinct by unknown assailants.
Mvambi said the doctor was rushed into the theater and the good news was that none of his vital organs was affected. He is now recovering in the ICU.
“All lives are precious. Violent crime is a negative indicator of our development as a country. We condemn this shooting incident and many other incidents of violent crime in any part of our society,” said the Free State Health MEC, Mathabo Leeto.
“The incident will be thoroughly investigated, so that we can take further steps to tighten security at our health facilities. We thank God for preserving the life of our doctor,” Leeto added.
