Doctor accused of rape gets bail

Duane Petrus – A Bloemfontein doctor appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today on two rape charges which were laid against him by his patients. He was already out on R2 000 bail for an alleged rape that took place on 12 October. The police arrested him at the court this morning for another rape that allegedly took place on 7 May. Both complainants allege that they were raped at his consulting room in the city. He has today been granted R5 000 bail for the second case, which both the state as well as the investigating officer did not oppose. He will appear in court again on 25 November, when the Directorate of Public Prosecutions will decide whether or not these cases should be transferred to the High Court.
