A Facebook post made on the 27th of January 2018 by the Bloemfontein SPCA spread like wildfire. This comes after the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) requested that residents of the City of Roses “support the Bloemfontein SPCA and DO NOT support the circus.” According to the post, the Bloemfontein SPCA is totally opposed to circuses using animals in their performances.
Posters can be seen all over the city, announcing that a circus will be visiting the city for the next few weeks. The post on social media had the town talking as people strongly shared their thoughts about what is right or wrong. In the comment section, animal lovers clearly showed that they support the Bloemfontein SPCA and believe that the circus animals belong in the zoo.
“I believe making any animal perform in shows is cruel and heartless!! Animals must be free, safe and happy at all times” was one of the comments on Facebook as people shared their thoughts on the matter. The post stating, “There will be a circus in Bloemfontein within the next few weeks and we really want to appeal to you NOT to support it”, has had more than 800 shares. More information to follow in this week’s Bloemfontein Courant.
