Following a track and trace operation by police in the Free State, a 34-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday after his DNA was linked to criminal activities. According to a police spokesperson in the Free State, Peter Kareli, the suspect has been on the police’s wanted list for the past 13 years.
He says the suspect is allegedly linked to rape cases that took place in Bloemspruit between 2009 and 2013. Kareli says that the suspect allegedly surprised his victims by sneaking up from behind, grabbing them by the neck while threatening to stab them. He says the suspect then allegedly dragged victims to either an open space or empty house where he raped them.
Kareli further adds that the victims are aged between 23 and 24, with one victim aged 43 years old. He says that the suspect will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday 17 January 2022 on 13 counts of rape and attempted murder.
