Female DJ Thokozile Mokgang, better known as DJ Zile, is aiming for appearances on international stages whilst fighting for equal rights and opportunities for female DJs.
The 31-year-old was born and bred in Bloemfontein and is well-known for her commercial DJ skills and deep house sound, as well as her love for dance music, which contains dub, funk and deep soul.
Mokgang said that being a female DJ is not always the easiest job but comes with blessings. “Being a female DJ is a blessing but it also has its own challenges. Being scammed and underpaid, mistreated and also taken advantage of, come with the job at times. But over the years I’ve used those challenges and built myself a name, a brand that I am so proud of.”
Mokgang is also the proud title holder of 2016 Best female DJ for the Free State Golden Bean Music Awards. Besides this, there are many other titles she has won over the years. She has made a guest appearance on the Metro FM’s Urban Bear and also played on the Spring Jump Off by DJ Vetkuk versus Mahoota.
A woman of many talents, Mokgang is not only a loving mother and wife but also an event organiser and radio presenter. She has always been in the music industry – 10 years to be exact. Her goals include playing on international stages and to help uplift aspiring female DJs.
