Drum rolls, fire breathing, cheerleaders, and loud cheers filled the air at this year’s inter-high swim gala, which was held at Grey College.
The entry processions were one of the highlights of the event, as the different schools filled the pavilion in their different uniforms to represent their schools in spirit and performance. The overall turnout kept momentum going on the sidelines and in the water.

This was the first time since 2014 that the gala was hosted at a different venue, but not being at the Stadium Swimming Pool did not dampen the spirit of the gala, says Lize van der Merwe, the head of swim at Grey College. The crowd spirit emanated from a distance as learners from different schools competed to be the school with the best spirit. Eunice High School won that trophy.

The schools that came out on top were Grey College with the best boys’ team and Oranje with the best girls’ team. Sentraal was the best LSEN-team.
Learners from within and outside Bloemfontein came in their numbers to represent their schools in the gala event those in attendance were Grey College, Eunice High-School , C&N Sekondêre Meisieskool Oranje, Hoërskool Jim Fouché, Hoërskool Sentraal, Saint Andrew’s School and Saint Michael’s School for Girls. Swimmers from other parts of the Free State, including Hoërskole Trio, Witteberg, Goudveld and Bultfontein were also in attendance.
