What started out as a small African accessories business out of her room at Res, is slowly turning into a fashion empire. 26-year-old vibrant Thikho Mudau, Bloemfontein entrepreneur who is passionate about business, fashion and music, is taking the industry by storm with her designer wear business.
Mudau, who is known for her unique apparel, is also musician. She started singing from a young age and mostly sang in church. After starting out with designing and making accessories, Mudau ventured into clothing and realised there was definitely a market for African-themed wear. “It’s not only that there’s a market for it. It speaks about who we are as Africans and how far we’ve come to fully accept and be proud of our diverse and different cultures. Taking our journeys and translating it into fashion is truly a work of art,” she said.
Mudau has worked with the likes of Margo Fargo and hopes to work with other influential people. When Mudau is not busy working on her designs, she performs at private gigs, serenading people with her beautiful voice. “I’ve worked with a number of musicians and artists in Bloemfontein, just to name a few, Lesley Irene Jennings, Andile Qonqo, Karabelo Plaatjie, Wayne Louw, Tim Mosh (who is now based In Cape Town) and others.”
