The Department of Police, Roads and Transport will host general elections for qualifying members of Rainbow Metered Taxi Association and Ithuteng Dedicated Learner Transport Association. The elections are for executive committee members whose term of office has expired. Only qualifying members of the two associations will be allowed to vote.

The standard constitution of Local Taxi Association, which derives from the Free State Public Transport Act no 04 of 2005 pronounced that the term of office for members of the executive committee of taxi associations is four years. The terms of office for both associations have expired and the elections of their executive committees are now considered to be long overdue.

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport would like to warn taxi operators who will still not be in good standing after the new executive take office, that their registration with the Department will be terminated without any hesitation. The Department will no longer accept deliberate actions from anyone who thinks they are above the law.

Operators who want to participate at the election should meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member registered with the association.
  • Must have a valid permit/operating licence.
  • Must have a valid certificate of fitness.
  • Must have a valid identity document (RSA I.D.).
  • Must be a paid-up member (proof to be produced).
