The potholes on the R26 between Ficksburg and Fouriesburg will be filled today by the Department of Police, Roads and Transport (DPRT).
According to a statement by DPRT, this initiative is focused on eliminating potholes and maintaining road infrastructure in five districts in the Free State. This will ensure better road surfaces to travel on and subsequently, improved road safety.
The programme will move further on 22 February 2021 when a contractor, New Ideas, which falls under the Contractor Development Programme (CDP) of the Department, commences with the patching of potholes on the stretch of road between Fouriesburg and Bethlehem.
The work on the R26 between Fouriesburg and Ficksburg will be done by a contactor known as Land Breeze, which is also under the CDP of the Department.
New Ideas and Land Breeze will be paid R850 000 each for repairing all the potholes on the R26 road. Most of these cracks and crevices in the top layer were created by the flooding of the roads during the recent heavy rains in the province.
