Dep of Roads, Police and Transport launch 18mnth programme

In the efforts to increase the number of traffic officers as well as fight against fraud and corruption on the roads, Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport officially placed 150 youth in a training programme, at the Lengau Traffic Training College in Mangaung.

The department’s Director of Co-Operative Communication Directorate Hillary Mophete says the programme is for eighteen months and afterwards students are guaranteed employment as Traffic officers in their department.

“It is an 18 month programme for students training to become traffic officers. They officially started today and after the above period, the department will absorb the learners into the department.”

The selection was from a normal application and recruitment process in various districts in the province. “All 5 districts in the province participated and the selection of students is from each one, totalling to the 150 chosen group.”

One of the 150 students, Dion Tshingila from Harrismith in the Eastern Free State says he feels privileged to be a part of this programme and that he will finally be able to assist his family financially.
