The 26-year-old private chef, Makhiba Modupe, who is better known as The Lazy Chef_za is rising to fame for her unique love and take-on daily recipes and has been featured on a variety of blogs and local brands.

She has a bigger picture in mind, which is helping children from disadvantage backgrounds enter the hospitality industry. “My end goal is to one day have an establishment that will give kids from a disadvantaged background an opportunity to fully be part of the hospitality industry.

Studying, training and getting into the hospitality industry is very expensive and sometimes those who can’t afford it are left out, even when they are very passionate about the industry,” said Modupe.

Modupe has been a foody from a young age and has turned her love and curiosity into wanting to learn how to make the meals she loves. As a result of this, she started cooking when she was still young.

“What inspires me on a daily basis, is my love for food and the drive and excitement I have to always try and find different and quicker ways of doing things around the kitchen. I could come across any daily ingredient and my brain just starts to wonder what I can make with it or which meal I can try it in,” said Modupe.

According to her, the name The Lazy Chef_za came about when she was looking for a name for her food page which was mainly meant to help lazy people find quicker ways to make their meals instead of being in the kitchen all day.

She has worked with local brands such as Ubuntu Extra Virgin Olive, FiftyOne Superior cider, Rooted Craft beer, Mother’s Ruin Gin and many more.
