Gallery on Leviseur calls on local artists to join an evening that promises to not only be fun, but insightful, with the possibility of having nationwide exposure for their artwork. They will have the opportunity to create art to bring awareness to early childhood development on.
The event is a collaboration between Gallery on Leviseur and Free State Arts Directory, Bloempapier, and the Mother and Child Academic Hospital (MACAH) Foundation.
According to project coordinator of MACAH, Tertia de Bruin, the first phase of childhood is critical. “The first 1 000 days from conception to the age of two, is the most critical time in our human life. The MACAH Foundation has identified this important phase which is often neglected because of various socio-economic problems facing society at present,” said De Bruin.
She stated that the project will really test the creativity of artists who will need to create visual representations of this concept in the form of greeting cards. “We will get artwork form various artists, so we need them to not only be creative to highlight the importance of the care of children in relation to nutrition but also the social aspects of their wellbeing at this important stage in life,” De Bruin.
Gallery on Leviseur’s coordinator, Geralda Nel, stated that this would be their second collaboration with MACAH to raise funds for the foundation. “People will come for a creativity talk with David Griessel and Liesel Wessels. Artists will be given the opportunity to design greeting cards, which will be printed and distributed by MACAH Foundation. We will select the greeting cards according to the theme and artists will gain exposure,” said Nel.
Well-known local artists Griessel and Wessels will give talks on “Sustainable Creativity” and “Finding your Artistic Voice” respectively. “Your artistic flair is needed to give meaning to what this delicate phase in life means in the society we live in,” said Nel.
