The well-known security company known by many in Bloemfontein as Defensor, was founded by Piet and Mariette Ferreira in 1993. When Piet became disabled, he had to monitor alarms from his bed and contact the police should any intrusions occur at residences and businesses on Defensor’s list of clients. In 2002 the couple decided to sell their shares in the business to Ryno van Rooyen and Claudius Peterson.

Bennie du Plessis from Defensor says the company offers a diverse set of security measures, which are combined in a total integrated solutions, from coming down the street up to entering the house.

Bennie says the fact that they are highly visible as a company has made a contribution to the safety of the people of Bloemfontein. The company provides training of staff to be able to identify risk situations while also sharing information with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other companies to reduce incidents.
