The Democratic Alliance in the Free State won yesterday’s (Wednesday) by-elections.
The by-elections took place in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Bloemfontein and the Moqhaka Municipality in Kroonstad. According to the Independent Electoral Commission’s Provincial spokesperson, Mmathabo Rasengane, they had 4156 registered residents in Ward 17, Moqhaka, with three voting stations.
“The person that won for the DA is Spaski Geldenhuis. Out of the 1720 votes cast, the DA received 1509 votes, the ANC 134 and the FF+ only 75. For Mangaung there were five voting stations and the DA’s Dirk Kotze won with 2258 votes,” she said.
Rasengane said in Ward 24, Mangaung the Freedom Front Plus lost with 128 votes and the ANC lost with 135 votes.
DA’s provincial chairperson Annelie Lotriet thanked residents who voted for the DA and congratulated the newly elected councillors. Lotriet expressed their confidence in the run-up to the 2016 municipal elections.
