The Democratic Alliance in Dihlabeng Municipality has released a statement welcoming the arrest of Dihlabeng Municipal Manager, Busa Molatseli, following the irregular appointment of a security company Zero Tolerance.
The Hawks’ National Clean Audit Task Team arrested the Dihlabeng Municipality manager and a security company owner on Tuesday morning.
In their statement the DA said that they hope the investigation will be broadened to include the possibility of whether politicians were involved in the decision to irregularly appoint this company. “The DA has always questioned the credibility and competency of Mr Busa Molatseli and voted against a council resolution to appoint him in 2016. According to the information obtained by the DA, the current contract between Zero Tolerance and the Municipality appears to be vague and amounts paid to this company are irregular. This is not the first time the HAWKS have visited the municipal offices to scrutinize the inner workings of the municipality,” reads the statement.
“The arrests have left the administration of the municipality in disarray and this could negatively affect service delivery. The DA will therefore request the Speaker of the Dihlabeng Council, Councilor Lengoabala, to arrange a special council meeting to discuss this issue and approve temporary measures to ensure stability and the delivery of basic services that are already erratic,” they concluded.
