DA to table motion of no confidence against Olly

Ward 47 Councillor Mokgadi Kganakga expressed concern over service delivery issues in Bloemfontein.

Democratic Alliance in the Free State will be tabling a motion of no confidence against Mangaung Metro Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Olly Mlamleli during the next council meeting. According to DA councillor, Mokgadi Kganakga, there are a numerous reasons why the mayor should step down from her position.

“It has been proved on numerous occasions that the Mayor is inept in running this Metro. In matters of basic service delivery, she is reactive instead of being proactive,” said Kganakga in a statement.

The councillor stated that Bloemfontein is plagued by problems in refuse disposal, sewerage system failure and recurring potholes.  “Due to refuse not being collected timeously the whole of Mangaung is filled with garbage. Burst pipes are not fixed timeously causing clean and fresh water to flow freely and this causes potholes on the roads that are already in a bad condition,” she said. “Sewage also flows unabated in the streets, causing a disgusting odour and this exposes children to a myriad of diseases,” added Kganakga.

The service delivery challenges also have an effect on businesses around the city. “Bloemfontein is filled with litter and a foul stench, this makes it difficult for vendors to trade freely, especially those selling food,” Kganakga explained.
