The DA in the Free State has submitted a letter to the Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, requesting him to initiate the process of placing the provincial department under administration. Shadow minister of health, Wilmot James, says the health system in the province is in crisis and serious intervention is necessary.
"We have requested that Minister Arron Motsoaledi place the Free State department of health under administration. This is done under section 100 of the constitution and we want to give him reasonable time to act on that. If he doesn’t we would like to take the matter through the legal system and it may end up in the constitutional court," added James.
The DA says it is convinced that this is the only way to avoid a total collapse of public health services in the province and that Motsoaledi must intervene or face constitutional consequences.
