CUT distance itself from social media threat

The Central University of Technology (CUT) has distanced itself from a Facebook message – that is doing the rounds on social media – threatening that schools nearby its main campus in Bloemfontein will be disrupted tomorrow.

Earlier today the Free State Education department condemned the message saying the department and the police is on standby for if and when such a situation occurs.

CUT spokesperson, Dan Maritz, warned parents and schools not to take the message serious.

“Our stance on this matter is that we distance ourselves from this message on Facebook, which we believe is even a fake FB account. This is a group Facebook account – it’s not just our students that are there – so anyone can join the group,” he said.
