Cuba not the answer to Free State’s education problems, says FEDSAS

The Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools (FEDSAS) is shocked that the Free State Department of Education has announced that teachers from Cuba will be appointed in the province.

Furthermore many trained teachers in the province remain unemployed, along some of these teachers who studied with bursaries from the department.

Deputy CEO of FEDSAS Jaco Deacon says it’s senseless that while the department struggles to finance their own teachers, they still plan to employ teachers from abroad.

According to FEDSAS, Education MEC Tate Makgoe should rather talk to all the role-players before announcing the irresponsible and ill-considered plans.

On the other hand, the governing body says they can learn from the Cuban education system but it would make more sense to introduce experts at management level rather than directly at school level.
