The Bloemfontien Crusaders Rugby Club is set to give families a great experience tomorrow, 16 October 2021, at the Clive Solomon Stadium in Heidedal when they host their annual Family Fun Day.

Vernol van der Ross, Secretary of Crusaders, explained that the Family Fun Day, which will start at 09:00 and end at 19:30, is hosted to attract more supporters to their home games and at the same time try to generate funds for the club.

Crusaders is a locally based rugby club which was founded at the Clive Solomon Stadium in Heidedal in 1994. They pride themselves on various successes, such as the production of young black provincial players as well as few Springbok players. “The club was formed when two former Heidedal clubs, namely Happy Hearts and Swallows merged in 1994,” added Van der Ross.

Van der Ross said that tomorrow will be their last league game and they wanted to incorporate a fun day to end the season on a high note. “We feel league games should be used in such a fashion that it could benefit the community as well as the club, instead of spectators who just come to watch the game and leave.”

He explained that one of their biggest challenges is time. “As level 1 of the national lockdown was only announced recently, we have to be cautious that the event should not be branded as a spreader, hence we will put all Covid-19 safety protocols in place and also control it throughout the event.”

Supporters and family members will be entertained with good music and food. The rugby club has invited a few Cheetah players together with the Cheetah mascot as special guests to interact with local players and supporters.

There will also be live performances and DJ’s to keep all supporters entertained. They will also have a jumping castle and waterslides for the young kids. Local car crews will be present to show off their beautiful cars.

“We even went as far as organising the Harley Davidson crew to come and show off their bikes and at the same time interact with local bike lovers and the community,” concluded Van der Ross.

Entry will be R10 per person and R20 per cooler box.
