Creating a sustainable and profitable township economy

The South African Union of Spaza Shops (SAUSS) has recently launched. Its main prerogative is to emancipate the unemployed mindset and eradicate poverty and crime whilst actively making an impact on the economy of South Africa.

The company is currently under the leadership of Teboho Selelane, who saw the need to create a sustainable and profitable support structure for local businesses within the township economy.

“The reason why this union was established was because we discovered that there is no representative nor advocacy of the SMMEs especially for Spaza shops and vendors,” said Selelane.

Selelane mentioned that SAUSS advocates for all compliant and non-compliant spaza shops and vendors who have official South African citizenship and ascribe to the Constitution of the country.

The presiding president mentioned that SAUSS is currently in talks with the post office to look into collaborating on a Spaza Shop Stokvel initiative. It will be launching the My Spaza Mobile app and e-spaza online portable service.

“We are looking forward to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to assist in empowering local entrepreneurs to start a small business by outsourcing funding opportunities for them,” said Selelane.

The SAUSS Bloemfontein branch is temporarily situated on Markgraaff Street, opposite the SABC’s offices. For inquiries, contact SAUSS’ communications officer, Neo Phothane, at 081-325-0696.
