The Free State Department of Health is now conducting Covid-19 screenings in all five districts of the province. Mass screenings began in Mangaung earlier this month.
Although the majority of Covid-19 cases in the Free State have been reported in Mangaung, screening operations have proceeded to other regions in order to better manage any possible outbreak of the rapidly spreading virus.
According to Provincial Health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi, the screenings which include house visits, are open to all community members.
“The Department is screening any person in the community and a special appeal is made to all members of the community that had contact with Covid-19 positive people or those who have been exposed to Covid-19 environments, to participate.” he said.
“We ask that such individuals please avail themselves for screening to determine their eligibility to test for Covid-19,” added Mvambi.
Mass screening services took place at the Twin City Mall and Turflaagte in Mangaung on Friday while in Botshabelo door-to-door operations happened in Ward 32 as well as shopping centres.
Mass screenings were expanded to Parys, Theunissen, Brandfort and towns in the Xariep District, among others.
“In Theunissen door-to-door screening will be in Ward 6, then Brandfort as well as Ward 6 in Meloding, Virginia. In Parys Covid-19 screening has been conducted at the Municipal Town Hall. Door-to-door screenings will also be conducted in the Xariep towns of Oppermansgronde, Luckhoff, Jacobsdal, Petrusburg and Koffiefontein,” explained Mvambi.
The Department appeals to all households to welcome screening teams and cooperate with them during these operations for the sake of the health of the nation.
