The Court Queens netball team, based in the disadvantaged community of Bergman in Bloemfontein, is calling for a sponsorship to help continue empowering young girls through sport.
The team, which serves 46 girls aged 12, 14, and 16 from various schools in the township, plays a vital role in offering a safe space for these youngsters and steering them away from social ills like drugs, teenage pregnancy, and alcohol.
Despite practicing on the dusty streets near Arbeidsgenot Primary School, the team’s passion for the game remains unshaken. However, limited resources, including the need for proper shoes and netballs, have become an obstacle to their growth.

Coach Mosa Moloi, who has been involved with the team since 2017 and took over as head coach in 2024, is determined to help these young girls overcome their challenges.
“Netball helps these young girls stay out of trouble. It keeps them away from drugs and teenage pregnancy and helps with teamwork and discipline,” Moloi said.
She emphasised the importance of community support, noting that many players struggle to afford proper training shoes. “My girls are struggling. They come from different backgrounds, and most can’t afford the necessary equipment and training shoes,” she added.
The team recently joined the Mangaung Netball League and finished second last year. This year, they are aiming for the top spot, but they need the necessary gear to get there.
The team only trains the day before any of their games because of the limited resources they have. For more information or to offer support, contact Ntombi at 063-479-0019.
