Court order behind officials’ return to duty

GALOOME SHOPANE All of Mangaung maximum correctional centre officials who all took sick leaves last week Tuesday were given court orders to return to work.

The correctional centre’s Grace Molatedi says the contractor viewed the absence of officials regardless if it was from sick leave as a form of a strike.

All the officials returned to work on Saturday, amidst inmates burning sheets and mattresses at the prison.

Molatedi says “the offenders were getting frustrated with the fact that programmes were not being offered, as a result of shortage of officials.”

“But everything is now being provided. All activities at the correctional centre are continued as expected, and the contractor is complying with the contract.,”she explainS.

Molatedi says salary negotiations are still ongoing with union representative, Popcru and everything is still in order at the correctional centre.
