A Mangaung Metro council member could stand to see residents of the city being without water for long periods, so he filled a Jojo tank from his own borehole and supplied residents in Fleurdal with water.
Adriaan de Bruyn of the Freedom Front Plus says he did that because he saw a need that had to be fulfilled.
Residents of the southern suburbs of Bloemfontein were without water since early this morning. This comes after some parts of the city have been affected by water reductions this whole week due to non-payment by Mangaung Metro Municipality.
“It was just a question of seeing a need and fulfilling it. At about 06:00 this morning we received a lot of messages that people were without water. This included people in Uitsig, Fleurdal, and Generaal de Wet – almost the whole area of southern Bloemfontein,” said De Bruyn.
One resident, Eldalize Kruger, said that she was grateful to see the Jojo tank after the water cuts prevented her from doing her chores.
“The situation is bad because why do we pay for water when we do not get any. We pay municipal fees and then we do not get what we pay for.
“I am grateful that we could get water from the tank though. You always have to take the good with the bad,” said Kruger. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
