Cosatu in the Free State expressed that it is disappointed by the alleged snail’s pace at which the National Health Insurance pilot project seems to be taking place.
According to Cosatu’s provincial secretary, Monyatso oa Mahlatsi, they will advocate for a speedy implementation of the NHI. He said there should be some progress in terms of implementation of the NHI, which has not happened. Oa Mahlatsi explained that Cosatu members working at primary health facilities continue to be under pressure, understaffed and overworked. He said Cosatu’s provincial health task team will meet in Bethlehem to further discuss the matter on Tuesday.
“At the meeting we will be discussing what has and what has not happened in more detail. Thereafter we will be meeting the department of health to explain to us what progress has been made. We will then decide. If we are still convinced that there is no progress, we will pressurise the department for implementation to be sped up,” he said.
