The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Northern Cape has condemned the brutal murder of a family in De Aar over the weekend.
Provincial Secretary Anele Gxoyiya says everything must be done by the police to get to the root of the murders of Glenwill Makaleni, his wife Gladys and their ten-year-old son Glenwill.
Their bodies were found in their house in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police in the Northern Cape have subsequently arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the murders. Gxoyiya says the community of De Aar should stand up against this brutal act and join hands in fighting for justice.
“We never thought that a brutal act of assassination can take place in a peaceful town like De Aar. We have always called upon our communities to establish street, block and ward committees to fight crime. The communities must stand together and protect each other,” says Gxoyiya.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape says that criminal activities cannot be allowed to continue tearing communities apart.
They welcomed the speedy arrest of an 18-year old suspect in the case. He is expected to appear in court soon.
