Cosatu calls for termination of Buthelezi Ambulance Service

REFILWE MEKOA

Free State provincial secretary of Cosatu has called for the termination of Buthelezi Ambulance Service.

Monyatso oa Mahlatsi said it is controlling the finances of provincial hospitals whilst the company rakes in hundreds and thousands of rand each month. He explained that Buthelezi Ambulance Service allegedly has a record of bad labour relations. Oa Mahlatsi said Buthelezi Ambulance Services hasn’t paid workers in Bongani Hospital in Welkom for more than three months whilst the company’s invoices where paid regularly by the hospital.

He added that Cosatu doesn’t like how the Buthelezi Ambulance Service is managed by the department of health.

“Buthelezi’s contract has been prioritized over and above crucial issues like food for patients and other things. If that contract is a normal contract, then it will have to wait in queue for other payment with other contracts that need to be paid. We have our own capable emergency services and we are opposed to privatisation regardless whether it is Buthelezi or any other company,” he said.
