Cops dodge bullets in Bainsvlei lovers’ tiff


SABRINA DEAN – Bloemfontein police say a 28-year-old man* will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today after allegedly firing on police responding to a domestic disturbance report in Bainsvlei at the weekend.

Spokesperson Wendy Nkabi confirmed the incident this morning.

She says a group of friends drove home together after attending a party in town. A fight allegedly broke out between the suspect and his girlfriend over a photo she took with another man at the bar.

Nkabi says the man then held the woman hostage at a house in Bainsvlei area. Neighbours reported the domestic disturbance to police and the suspect allegedly fired on police when they arrived at the scene.

According to Nkabi the man was later arrested and the woman was rescued with only minor injuries after the suspect allegedly assaulted her.

Nkabi says he is appearing in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today on five charges. These are attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm, possession of illegal ammunition, discharging of a firearm in a municipal area and domestic violence under assault GBH.
