Cops bust FS man for transporting alcohol

On Tuesday, July 20, at around 09:10, members of the Welkom Public Order Police received a tip about a suspect transporting alcohol in a blue Toyota Corolla with Free State registration numbers.

According to a media statement, the vehicle was spotted and followed until it was stopped next to Jabula wholesale in Muizen Street, Welkom. Permission was asked to search the vehicle and 12 cases of beer were found.

A 50-year-old man, the owner of a bottle store, was arrested for transporting alcohol during Alert Level 4. “He then requested to call his 44-year-old brother, who, upon his arrival, tried to bribe the arresting officers with R3000,” the statement read.

Both men were arrested and will appear in Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
