Contractors need to treat workers efficiently.

Contract workers hired to work on the renovations of Bartimea School for the Deaf and Blind in Thaba Nchu have broke the lid on the unjust treatment they have endured from their contractor.

During his site visit to the school Free State MEC of Infrastructure and Public Works Sam Mashinihi says contractors along with their workers must adhere with the legal requirements stipulated in their agreement so that the work is done efficiently.

Mashini was up and arms during his inspection at the school because of the unkempt and incomplete construction on the school grounds.

The MEC and his officials found some of the workers had turned what was supposed to be a storeroom in the new classrooms into a sleeping room and in another class the space allocated for a storeroom was turned into a make-shift kitchen with cooking utensils and a stove.

A school official sited that the workers are always striking over salaries hence the work is incomplete, despite construction commencing in November 2013.
