Condolences pour in for man who fell from Bfn building

Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, and the Free State Provincial Government have expressed shock and sadness following the untimely death of one of its employees.

Martin Petrus Albertus Lotter(59) who worked in the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure under the Chief Directorate: Works Design, Maintenance and Construction as an Artisan Foreman, was performing routine maintenance at  OR Tambo House when he tragically passed on.

Paramedics reported that Lotter sustained fatal injuries when he apparently fell five storeys down a shaft at O.R. Tambo House in St Andrews Street, Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 14 June 2017, afternoon. It is understood that they were working on a pipe on the fifth floor when Lotter fell forward into the shaft. His co-worker ran down and found him at the bottom.

By the time paramedics arrived on the scene, there was nothing that could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene. Police were at the scene and an investigation into the incident continues as the exact details surrounding the incident is still unknown.

The Premier and the Free State Provincial Government conveys heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mr. Lotter, his colleagues, friends and the Free State community at large.

Described as a seasoned and dedicated veteran artisan who served the Free State with distinction, dedication and discipline, Lotter had been a public servant since October 1996.

“Indeed we are deeply saddened by this untimely passing on of one of our own, Mr. Lotter. His memories will always be in our hearts and we shall cherish the contribution he made to the Provincial Government of the Free State alike,” said MEC Dora Kotzee, responsible for Public Works & Infrastructure in the Province.

Magashule added: “The passing of Mr. Lotter comes at the time when our massive infrastructure investment continuously increases the need for artisans and other skilled professionals. We are indeed saddened by this tragic loss,” added Magashule.

Mr. Lotter is survived by his wife and two children. After consultations with family, the Provincial Government will communicate the details of the memorial and funeral services of the deceased.
