“Ubuntu is key.” That is the main message the Hillside View community has been shown as they have gathered together to raise funds for a family who lost their home due to a fire.

Since 8 October, the community members have come together to host fundraisers at David Montoedi Street, just outside the home, to assist the family in their time of need. Speaking to a neighbour, Nthoto Seane, they have managed to accumulate R15 000.

“We managed to get this amount through the Çhesanyama and car wash fundraisers that we have been hosting. With the past one on Saturday, we managed to raise R5 800 on top of what we have already accumulated.” At present, they are building two rooms for them because they are waiting for the RDP. In the meantime, they are staying with a neighbour.

“We are really pushing hard for this so that they get privacy.”

They are in need for trusses and pins, a ceiling, paint, floor tiles, a bathroom set, a shower, cupboards, and a wardrobe. “I deeply appreciated the enthusiasm and kindness of the community at large for their understanding and unwavering support. Uplifting one another should be in our DNA, because what you plant is definitely what you will reap. We thank all for their help and ask for their continuous support as we try to build this family a home,” says Seane.

Speaking to the affected family which consists of a mother, who is a pensioner, and her daughter, they express that they are overwhelmed by the support they have received from the community members and others.

“We do not have words to describe what we see. We would like to thank God for all the help and we are overwhelmed by His grace and mercy. ”

Those who would like to make other contributions can get in touch with Seane at 083-451-7072. The next fundraiser is being held on Saturday 29 October for those who would like to support the initiative.
