Committee not pleased with schools’ sporting facilities

The Parliament Portfolio Committee on Sports and Recreation calls on the upgrade and maintenance of schools’ sporting facilities in the North West Province.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Beauty Dlulane, says they found facilities in an appalling state during their site visits to schools.

She says some of them were dilapidated. Dlulane says the North West is the only province that has merged education and sports development to fall under the North West Department of Education and Sports Development.

She says for this reason they expect sporting facilities at school level in the province to be highly prioritised.

“It cannot be that facilities are not looked after. There is no way that facilities are not built and looked at, but the problem is that this is the only province that the department of education is with the department of sports and recreation. And now when we look at the presentation it does not indicate what they are doing.”

Dlulane says they are advising them to improve and rewrite their reports on how to improve the status quo.
