The National Heritage Project (NHP) is an exciting new public heritage and tourism initiative ultimately to be situated in Johannesburg. The ‘spine’ or heart of the initiative is ‘The Long March to Freedom’: a procession of more than 400 life-size bronze representations of individuals from South Africa’s varied and multi-layered history.
The National Heritage Project Company, custodian of the NHP, wishes to receive Expressions of Interest from suitably capable and experienced artists and sculptors for the creation of a number of life-size bronze representations of specific individuals from South Africa’s history. The bronzes will be full-figure representations in the internationally accepted tradition of realistic sculptural portraiture, and will be included in the existing outdoor procession of figures which constitutes the first phase of ‘The Long March to Freedom’.
