Come and join in a fun open day at Tempe

Rooikat 76 Mk1D

This Saturday, 2 April, 1 Special Service Battalion (1 SSB) at Tempe in Bloemfontein will be hosting an open day from 09:00 to 17:00. They have invited residents to come and enjoy the day with them.

According to 1 SSB Communications Officer, Johann Prinsloo, the purpose is to raise funds for the unit’s museum and for their 90th birthday celebrations that will take place in 2023.

During the Open Day, there will be exhibitions of various armoured, infantry, combat and support vehicles, together with vehicles from the SA Armour Museum. Military vehicles on display will include the Rooikat 76 Mk1D Armoured Car, the Ratel ZT3 Missile System, the Eland 60 and 90 Armoured Cars, the Buffel Troop Carrier, the Ferret Reconnaissance Car, and the Bedford Troop Carrier. Mobility demonstrations will also be held with some of the vehicles.

Various food and soft drink stalls and a beer tent will be available. Adequate and secure parking will be available. Admission is free and the whole family is welcome, with kids’ entertainment available, such as bouncing castles.
