A cold weekend predicted for Central South Africa
People in Central South Africa should brace themselves for a chilly weekend.
A forecaster at the South African Weather Service in Bloemfontein, Michael Nethavani, says temperatures are expected to drop to below 15 degrees Celsius in most areas in the Northern Cape, Free State and North West on Saturday and Sunday due to a cold front moving in from the Western Cape.

He says a southwest wind will push the cold front through the central interior by Friday.

Temperatures are expected to start dropping in the southern part of the Northern Cape, spreading eastwards to the Free State and North West by Saturday.

Temperatures in areas in the southern Free State and Northern Cape are expected to drop below 10 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

No rain is expected, but partly cloudy conditions will occur in the southwestern part of the Free Sate and the central southern part of the Northern Cape.

He says early morning fog and cloudy conditions are expected in the Eastern Free State and some parts of North West on Sunday because of the high-pressure systems affecting the moisture over the eastern escarpment of KwaZulu-Natal.

Nethavani says temperatures are expected to increase slightly by Monday across the Northern Cape, Free State, and North West.

Moderate winter day temperatures above 18 grades Celsius are expected for most areas for the rest of the week before the cold front hits the southern part of the Northern Cape on Friday. The minimum temperature in most areas will be 0 degrees Celsius or below. – Christal-Lize Muller
