Bloemfontein – World record goalscorer, Pietie Coetzee, has made a surprise return to the South Africa women’s hockey team following the withdrawal of double Olympian Lenise Marais.
Due to pressing work commitments, Coetzee, the scorer of a staggering 280 goals in 281 test matches, had made an early exit from the World Cup reckoning.
The withdrawal of Marais due to an injury, has givien Coetzee the chance to come in at a late hour for the event that finishes on 15 June.
It will be the fourth time the former Free Stater will be representing South Africa at a World Cup.
The girls in green and gold meet reigning World Cup champs, world number two and London 2012 Olympic finalists Argentina at 19:45 on Sunday night.
