Chiefs stun determined FC Buffalo

LEE KHOTLELE

Bloemfontein – Second half goal from Mandla Masango was enough to help Kaizer Chiefs stun FC Buffalo 2-1 to progress through the next round of the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday evening at FNB Stadium.

Chiefs opened the scoring through centre-back, Ivan Bukenya, who headed Masango’s corner kick to give the home side a lead in the 30th minute.

However, the visitors levelled matters under fortuitous circumstances on the stroke of halftime when Chiefs’ left back, Simphiwe Mtsweni, trying to clear Mhlengi Sigwebela’s cross, side- footed the ball into his own net.

In other match, Thusa Phala’s goal against Swallows sent Supersport United into the quarterfinals.

The defending champions, Chiefs, and United now join Bidvest Wits, Bloemfontein Celtic, African Warriors, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United in the Last 8.

The Nedbank Cup quarterfinal draw  will take place later today.
