Cheetahs impress on Day 1 of World Club 10s

The Toyota Cheetahs have finished the Day 1 at the Beachcomber World Club 10s in Mauritius as the team to beat on Sunday.

The side from Bloemfontein topped Group B at the tournament with an unbeaten display in Mapou.

On Saturday morning during the first round of matches they impressed with a solid 32-5 win over the Brumbies from Canberra in Australia.

During round two they weather a bit of storm from the French Invitational team, Tsunami Pyrenees, to run out 21-0 winners heading into their final match of the day, the Bulls form Pretoria.

The side from the Jacaranda City were also impressive on day one and beat both the Brumbies and Tsunami Pyrenees as well.

The setup a thrilling clash for the last match of the day, and it was also believed that these two teams will go head-to-head in the tournament final.

The Bulls led the match 12-5 at the half-time break, however, it was a wave of orange in the second 10 minute half, as William Small-Smith, Armandt Koster and Rosko Specman dotted down. Small-Smiths’ score was his brace after scoring the opening try in the first half.

The Cheetahs ran out 29-14 winners.

The Cheetahs hooker, Jacques du Toit, was a casualty for the side on Day 1 after sustaining an ankle injury. It was thought that he broke his ankle, but the good news is that it is nothing more than a sprain. His tournament is however over. – MORGAN PIEK
